Miles Matter For Bowel Cancer WestVirtual Run
Here at runr, we're pleased to be hosting the first virtual event for Bowel Cancer West - Miles Matter For Bowel Cancer West.
Just another charity promotion to get fit for a good cause? Yes, but with a difference…
As we head towards the end of 2018 and into the start of 2019, you might be thinking: “I want a new challenge and I want to get fitter…. But I want to do this at my own pace and at my convenience!
You might already be walking, cycling, running (or even Kayaking!) 1- 50 miles a week to work with no reward. You might really enjoy getting out for a weekend stroll, or pedal with your friends but need an extra challenge to go with this. How about pushing yourself a little further and getting some recognition at the same time? How about a bit of friendly competition with your friends, family or colleagues as well? Keep reading….
So, what do you need to know about the event we hear you say? Below we've answered a few questions:
When will the virtual event take place?
1st - 28th Feb 2019.
How do I get involved?
1 - Pick your method of transport- it could be walking, cycling, or any other measurable sport!
2 - Select the distance you want to achieve during the whole of February. Distances range from:
Running/Walking/Kayaking: 25 Miles, 50 Miles, 75 Miles, 100 Miles, 200 Miles
Cycling: 100 Miles, 200 Miles, 400 Miles, 500 Miles
3 - Record this on an app (I.e. Strava, Map My Run, Nike + etc.) or even use old fashioned pen and paper, email us at BCW@runr.co.uk to say you've completed your distance once the month is over and you’ll be rewarded with a medal!
4 - Also, for anyone that raises over £100 in their own fundraising will get a refund on the entry fee!
5 - Each person taking part will receive their very own Miles Matter medal which will be launched in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!
For everyone that enters, we would like to share just your email address with the team at BCW in order for them to update you how the money and awareness you are generating, is going to help them as a charity. If you do not wish for your email to be shared, then please untick the box when you get the checkout.
During February, we will have a Strava group set up to track live mileage throughout the month which lets you see how others are getting on. Plus, you'll be able to share running hints and tips. You can join the group now following this link.
We have also created a Facebook group for those that want to share photos, arrange group runs/cycles/kayak sessions and encourage others, so feel free to get involved. You can join the group now following this link.
Miles really do Matter!
Not only does 100% of the profits on your £13.95 entry fee go to Bowel Cancer West’s crucial work to increase survival rates of the disease, but keeping fit and healthy is a known way to prevent bowel cancer in the first place. Likewise, if you are unfortunate enough to undergo treatment for bowel cancer, having a good level of fitness will put you in a better position for recovery. Right now, bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cause of death by cancer, but with your support: we’ll be miles closer to cure.
For those that want to help fundraise, we would love you to create your own JustGiving page and raise money for BCW. We've created a link for you to follow that means it's easy for you to set up your own page. Follow this link to set up your page.
